Now offering monthly training with boarding available through Cocolalla Ranch. Horses in training are worked an average of 5 days a week. Included in the training fee is one weekly lesson for the owner. During these lessons, owners work directly with their horse and receive instruction on the cues their horse is learning, helping them understand and apply these cues effectively. Lessons are entirely separate from the training sessions I conduct with your horse throughout the week. Owners who would like to take more than one lesson per week receive a discount on additional lessons. Lessons are optional and do not count toward your horse’s weekly training sessions with me; they offer valuable opportunities for owners to bond with and learn from their horse.
All monthly training-$700 + $500 for board.
Training services
Thirty-day minimum for groundwork clients, sixty-day minimum for colt starting!
Colt Starting
60-day minimum; horses must be at LEAST 2 years old! For horses over six, I require a 90-day minimum.
Suggested training time: 90-120 days.
Horse must have all groundwork completed before I will start them under saddle. Typically, horses in for colt starting will spend the first two to four weeks focusing on groundwork before mounted work will start (No, just because you’ve done “your own groundwork” does not mean I will accept them for shorter period of time for rides only). If you’re looking for a “cowboy” start, I’m not your gal! In my program, I strive to build a relationship and lay a solid foundation on a horse before beginning mounted work. This allows for a smooth transition to working under saddle. I will communicate with the owner about reasonable expectations after evaluating the horse and working with them several times. Generally, owners can expect their horse to be mounted safely; walk, trot and canter under saddle; isolate and move forequarters and hindquarters; accept a snaffle (if owner desires); side pass; back up and to be beginning to move off of legs by the end of 60-90 days.
Problem solving
Suggested training time: 60-90 days.
Have a horse that's developed some undesirable habits that you are not comfortable dealing with? I’ll work ‘em through it so you can enjoy your horse again!! This program will include ground and mounted work. Not only will we work through problem issues, but we will also lay a foundation to help prevent them from recurring or developing others down the line.
“Baby Boot Camp”
Perfect for those unruly yearlings and two-year-olds!
Suggested training time: 30-90 days.
In this program, babies will learn how to be a good citizen! We will work on ground manners from the basics of leading to advanced groundwork principles. Babies will learn to trust and respect their handlers. All too often, foals are overly loved (because how could you not!) and unfortunately turn into pushy and overly efficient yearlings and two-year-olds, and all of a sudden, the cute baby behavior isn’t so cute and can quickly become dangerous! In this program, babies will learn the basics to help set them up for a successful, stress-free start under saddle. Babies will be exposed to scary obstacles, tarps, sounds, saddles, ponying, and much more! The time frame will determine just how far we get!
Ground work
30 day minimum, suggested 30-90 days.
I like to think of groundwork as the foundation of a house: just as you need a solid foundation to build a sturdy house, your horse needs strong groundwork to become a reliable partner under saddle. Unfortunately, groundwork is often rushed, done incorrectly, or skipped before mounted work, leading to gaps in your horse’s training. There is never a bad time to improve or expand your horse’s groundwork skills. Groundwork is especially beneficial for young horses before starting, for those who experienced the “30-day cram,” for horses struggling with confidence on the ground and under saddle, for those with behavioral issues, and so much more. In my program, all horses learn the basics of ground work, including w/t/c cues in the round pen and on a lungline, how to disengage their hind quarters, turn on the haunches, back, lead good, stand tied, handle feet, and SOOO much more, depending on the time frame. As with all my programs, this can be modified to the owner's needs and can include tricks!
Tune-ups
Suggested time 30-90 days
This program is for the horses that have been on the back burner for too long and need saddle time and miles to get back into the groove! This program often starts with a week of groundwork (depending on the horse, it could be more or less) and then progresses to mounted work. I can work to soften already existing “buttons” or add new ones that the owner will need. This program, as with my others, can be entirely tailored to the horse and riders specific needs and desires. For example, if an owner's main goal is trail riding, I will tailor the program to creating a bombproof trail horse as well as putting many trail miles on the horse; whereas, if an owner's main goal is showing, we’d spend much more time on arena work and maneuvers!
Gentling
Required training time yearlings- 60 days, two year olds and up -90 days
Suggested training time: 90+ days
This program allows an owner to adopt a wild mustang or feral horse without prior training experience. In this program, I will work with the horse to get them gentled, establish their groundwork, and progress to mounted work when the horse is ready. I am also happy to help owners with pickup and selecting a horse that suits their wishes!
